Mindanao Conference on Climate Change
Sowing the seeds for a coordinated Mindanao response to climate change
|
DAY 3: Don't Stop at teaching a man how to fish! Revolutionize the fishing industry! |
On the third and last day of the conference, project ideas were introduced that seek to turn the climate crisis into a well spring of development opportunities for small communities. An idea was introduced on how to tap the 10 million Filipino diasporas in generating resources for community based projects that will bolster the adaptive capacities of vulnerable communities and make way for their meaningful participation in the global effort to curb greenhouse emission. The second session introduced a framework that synthesizes the social dimension of climate change that is based on actual community adaptation study. The next session was a presentation on climate sensitive and responsive project management cycle framework was shared. Putting flesh into the framework, a case on the experience in retrofitting a rural project to be climate change responsive was presented and discussed. In the afternoon session, a workshop was organized to draw the Mindanao Climate Change roadmap of interventions and draw the appropriate institutional mechanisms that will carry out the identified strategies of the roadmap. The conference understanding and commitment to the roadmap was capsulized into a "Mindanao Declaration". The last day was capped by donor's responses to the project ideas presented to the conference. |
