Mindanao Conference on Climate Change

Sowing the seeds for a coordinated Mindanao response to climate change

Why NGOs should attend the conference?

A run-away Climate Change will have a devastating impact on vulnerable communities where NGOs mostly operate.

Addressing climate change is not dissimilar to what NGOs usually are doing. With climate change agenda, the difference is greater urgency and measurability of our cause. Our work should be measured on how much carbon is sequestering from the atmosphere and how soon can we do it. How vulnerable our communities are and what are strategies for coping or becoming resillient to its impact.

Equally important, is for us to realize that no other cause has awaken and mobilize the whole world so widely as scientific communities, governments, civil societies, businesses, religious institutions, academes, etc are rising in one voice to Stop Global Warming!

With that scenario, global financial and economic resources are being remobilized, rechanneled and reinvented with new mechanisms in an effort to avert the catastrophic impact of global warming. Pipe dream? We are facing a serious danger and the whole world is acknowledging we have a deadline.

Integrating sustainable development with the perspective of the global climate agenda is turning the global community into a gold mine of sustainable development funding, and therefore potentially addresses one of the factors that limit NGOs to reach its highest potentials in solving poverty and other social issues.

Will climate change lead NGOs to find its Holy Grail (financial sustainablity)? Lets discuss these things in the conference!

There is a wonderful mythical law of nature that the three things we crave most in life -- happiness, freedom, and peace of mind -- are always attained by giving them to someone else.
